
Leave of Absence - A temporary absence from active employment
for a period of time that has been agreed to in advance in writing by the
Employer.
Light duty - see transitional work.
Long-term disability (LTD) plan - Benefit plan that replaces a portion
of income (usually 50%, 60%, or 66-2/3%) lost because of an injury or illness
that lasts for an extended period of time and prevents an employee from performing
all the material duties of his or her job. After a waiting period (e.g., 90
or 180 days), benefits are payable until the employee retires or reaches a specified
age, provided the disability is continuous.
Longshoremen and Harbor Workers Act - Federally administered legislation
that provides coverage similar to workers' compensation benefits for individuals
in the named occupations.
